Day 2 – The Elgin Route is located just behind the Hottentots Holland mountain range. It is a short drive along the Sir Lowrie Pass road and into the town of Grabouw. This will take you into the beautiful Elgin valley region which is known for its abundant fruit orchards.

This area is the coolest wine region of South Africa because it is situated 350metres above sea level. The high rainfalls and cool temperatures of the area allow the grapes to ripen slowly allowing the grapes to develop their full fruitful flavours which has given rise to the success of a number of vineyards in the area.

Take the Sir lowrie pass road into Caledon and then take the The Shaw Mountain pass into the magnificent Hemel and Aarde valley “Heaven on Earth” This valley is home to the majority of delectable wines estates on the Hermanus route.
